Kevin Reed

Vice President and General Counsel

Kevin S. Reed serves as Vice President and General Counsel for the University of Oregon. He is responsible for the management of the legal affairs of the University, including the provision of legal guidance to all University units, schools and colleges.  His work involves drafting and counseling on a wide array of issues facing a large public research university, ranging from government ethics, procurement policy, research compliance, athletics compliance, IP protection, employment and labor issues, Title IX, free speech, academic freedom, governance, and promotion of diversity. Additionally, Reed oversees the Office of Public Records and the University’s Purchasing and Contracting Services Office. Reed previously served as Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs at UCLA, General Counsel for the Los Angeles Unified School District, and as a litigator with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.
